My name is Katelyn but if you're seeing this site, you should probably already know.
This is a REALLY brief summary of how I got to where I am today, graduating college in a month.
It's terrifying to enter REAL adulthood but the ride has been a lot of fun.
So what're you waiting for? Let's get started!
Something struck Earth with a baby packed safely
inside. Sound familiar? It's probably because that was Superman. In all seriousness, I was born on a crisp Thursday night in June, sharing a birthday with Marilyn Monroe and Morgan Freeman!
Even though I give off "only child vibes," I would get a lil baby sister while I was in kindergarten. I was really excited to be an older sister but...
We wouldn't get along until later.
Like a lot later. She was a bit...bitey.
Middle school was weird, let's not think about that. Especially the time I got pantsed in gym class running the mile...Definitely not an unlocked fear.
I was really active with extra-curriculars like managing various sports throughout the years, violin, and even dipping my toes into other sports!
Until one really unfortunate day, I was struck with a softball (shortly after tennis practice) and then out for the season with a concussion. This would also take a toll on my mental health in combination of school and a handful of other things.
Shortly after the little funk I was in, I quit the violin and rediscovered my love of art! I focused on that and exploring architecture. (I really thought I would be an architect).
With acceptances coming in, I was ecstatic! Especially as a first-generation Asian American, this was a big deal. I would be the first in my family to go to college, which also fueled my anxiety. So that's where James Madison University's School of Art, Design, and Art History came in. I loved the campus and the sense of community, figuring this is where I belonged.
I was fortunate enough that my parents could take my sister and I back to Vietnam, to reconnect with my roots and extended family before I started my next chapter at JMU. We also got to visit Singapore and Malaysia!
College has been an absolute blast, time surely flies when you're having fun. I didn't love JMU but I love the memories I've made and people I've met, I wouldn't change it for the world.
So after going through pretty much my entire life story, I want to invite you to my graduation, May 12th, 2022 at 7pm at the Atlantic Union Bank Center. I will finally be free from the shackles of academia and start the next chapter of my life, come celebrate!
